Monetizing Your Website

August 6, 2009 at 10:07 pm | Internet, Making Money | No comments

The internet is an awesome marketplace. It gives just about anyone the ability to start a website, but that’s common knowledge. What you might not have known is that making money from your website is probably a whole lot easier than you expected, and if you put the time and effort into it, it could be enough to be your full-time job (not that I suggest quitting your day job to start a website) I personally know people who run websites that make thousands of dollars a month in advertising revenue alone, and nearly all of them started as something they did part-time and just for fun. Imagine that, doing something you enjoy, doing it part-time and making money! It sounds like one of those late-night infomercials (the ones where you can make $40,000 in two weeks). So, how do you go about making money on the internet? Today I’ll talk a little bit about monetizing your website, and we’ll also touch on some different ways to drive traffic to your site. Let’s take a look. (more…)

I decided that it’s been a while since I made a blog post that wasn’t an advertisement for Clarion Media or its subsidiaries (aka wapClix), and I’m kind of in the mood for writing (aka bored). (more…)

Quick Update

June 25, 2009 at 10:53 pm | Clarion Media, wapClix | No comments

I just wanted to make a quick update in regard to Clarion Media. The new website is finally finished. You can check it out here. We’re still making some minor design changes and bug fixes, but overall it’s done. It seems like we went through about 100 different designs until we finally settled with this one. For the most part I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. Down the road we have plans to develop a really nice client interface, not sure if I’ve mentioned that before or not. Now that the website is finished, we can turn our attention to wapClix and hopefully get that finished up and finally launched soon. (more…)

Using JavaScript’s Random Function

May 17, 2009 at 9:10 pm | JavaScript, Programming | No comments

In this post I’ll talk about using JavaScript’s Math.random() function in combination with arrays (or arraylists). Math.random is a very useful tool whenever you need to do something randomly (big surprise?). In fact, I recently used it for a random testimonial display system I coded for Clarion Media. Math.random() was perfect for this because it allowed us to display a random testimonial from a pool of testimonials on the Clarion Media website. So, how do we use the random function in conjunction with arrays? First we need to get an understanding of how Math.random() works. (more…)

Clarion Media, Black Jack, and Zombies

We scratched the new design for Clarion Media last minute. It sucks, but the reality was that it just wasn’t flexible enough for our needs. The good news is that we’ve already got a design we’re going to move forward with, and it should actually see the light of day (fingers crossed). The funny thing is is that it’s a design I whipped up in about an hour. It was not refined whatsoever whereas the previous design–the one we canned–I labored over for about a week making adjustments. Hopefully we’ll see this thing live by the end of this month around the time wapClix launches. We also may begin work on programming a new client interface where clients can manage projects and other parts of their account, but that’s for another post. (more…)

wapClix

So it’s been well over a month since I last posted but for good reason. Clarion Media will soon be rolling out its new mobile advertising network wapClix. We’re currently taking both advertiser and publisher applicants for the beta program. Basically, wapClix is an advertising platform that connects advertisers with publishers (and if you didn’t know, “WAP” stands for Wireless Application Protocol, hence the name). It allows publishers to target their ads to specific audiences and also it has a spider that indexes all of their pages so they can maximize their ad impressions. Additionally publishers can create ad campaigns designed for what their traffic and average click-through rate is. There’s a mobile control panel that allows both publishers and advertisers to monitor their campaign statistics from their phone. We’ve already got many applications from some pretty big firms, so we’re pretty excited about this. If you want more information on the service, check out the official wapClix press release. This project, of course, has slowed work on the Clarion Media website, but it’s pretty close to being finished. We’re hoping to get it up within the next couple weeks.

Other than this, I don’t really have any significant updates to give. No idea when I’ll make another blog update, could be tomorrow, next week or next month.

Another week without posting. If you’re reading this, you’re probably looking for the coding tutorial. I’m just going to be straightforward with you–it’s going to be a while. Between the new projects I’ve picked up and the ongoing construction of the new Clarion Media, I just don’t have time at the moment. (more…)
